This was a fun show... but like most shows that Christian Slater is in, it was cancelled too soon.
This is the quiet little show that should be getting tons of press but doesn't. I've been watching since season 1, but here I am just rating it now at the start of season 3, so maybe I'm part of the problem ;)
No need to suspend your disbelief with this show... it is very true to life and the acting is superb, especially from the lead actor, Aden Young. I highly recommend it, you have to watch it to see. I have noticed that the production quality of season 3 seems less than the two previous seasons, but that's the set and filming, the acting is still top notch.
Anyone else on the fence about this one? I just watched the pilot and I'm willing to give it one more episode.
UPDATE: I couldn't justify spending anymore time on this after the second episode.
I thought the pilot was "just okay"...I'll watch again next week and see if it improves. UPDATE: Ep 2 was slightly better, but not so good as to move up my rating. Oh summer, how you give bad shows a chance... I can't wait for fall.
I enjoy this show and it does give me a few chuckles every episode... not a gut busting sort of laughter, but enough to keep watching.
The first episode was enough to keep my interest and I was really looking forward to the season. I think there were a few missteps throughout the season, but nothing so fatal as to make me not watch season 2 when it rolls around. I do hope they get better instead of worse though... we'll see.
At first I really disliked this show because I thought it put forth a lot of negative stereotypes so I stopped watching after the second episode. I just watched a recent episode, which was ep 18, and it was so much better that I am now going to go back and catch up on the episodes I missed... maybe they were just finding their footing in the first few episodes. I've update my star rating; this show is definitely worth a second chance if you've already decided against it like I did... guaranteed to laugh at least a couple of times per episode.
Well that was catchy! The job of the pilot episode is to draw you in enough to make you WANT to watch the whole season. Well, this pilot did just that. When a pilot is this good, even if the next couple of episodes suck, you still watch even more hoping that it will get back to the hype of the pilot...sorta like when a relationship starts off great and then tanks, don't we all sometimes hold on a bit too long? ;)
I say this because the preview for the second episode didn't look very good, but I'm holding out hope because the pilot was about an 8/10. And these days, with so much crap TV, I'm happy with a 7.
Besides that, although I haven't watch those Bible series shows, the guy who played Jesus is now the devil in this show... come on, now that's acting range!
UPDATE: Oh dear... I spoke too soon... I'm on episode 3 and it is worse than episode 2. I think they jumped the shark in episode 2 if that is even possible. Too Christian-centric, and I'm Christian, so that is saying a lot.... but I'm not a "Bible-thumper". This show will make the bible-thumping Christians mad because it is messing with theology and it will also make the Atheist's mad because they will automatically and incorrectly assume that Christianity is being crammed down their throats. So this show is pretty much doomed because not everyone is open-minded enough to watch it...
The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse are covered in Sleepy Hollow, but they seem to do it without such an emphasis on Christianity. And the pastor's impression of megachurch pastor Joel Osteen is just too ridiculous for words. Now I can also see that the young mother cannot act to save her life, and the others are only slightly better, with the devil being the best actor of them all. Sadly, I've had to change my rating from a 3.5 to a 2.5. I hope they can turn it around because it is an interesting idea on paper, their execution sucks though....I can smell a cancellation.
The actors do a great job, it's a great show with an interesting premise. It started out great and it used to be the show that I silenced my phone for ever week. Now, years and years later, I'm wondering why I still watch it. Some of the old episodes used to be 5/5, then 4/4, and now the show is a barely a 3.5. They should have ended on a high note, yet they keep milking the cow with spin offs and now a movie in a year. Ugh... kill it already.
Well written and great actors. Sometimes the subject matter in a particular episode is iffy, but overall, it is a captivating show. I do wish that they would speak like real human beings though... what are the odds that so many people speak that fast and know each other, bad direction from the director.
