Yay! I finally got Follow buttons for people! Downlaoding Opera seemed to be best for this site. Odd choice really.

So very bad. Unoriginal. I think they were hoping Sophie Winkelman had enough of a following for everyone to ignore how bad the script and concept was. She didn't.

It's yet another show that started out strong then was kept on the air long after they ran out of interesting ideas. This is one of the few cases where I like the US remake better than the UK original. Mostly due to the lack of Gervais.

The first 3 seasons are great. After that it's a waste of time.

It's the kinda formulaic lazy writing you expect from a Chuck Lorre show. Some of the cast make it worth watching when you just want to zone out.

Being Mary Jane

Mary Jane is a women whose professional life is well put together. She is determined, focused and bold. Her personal life is quite the opposite. While she takes full control of her professional life she is always playing victim in her personal life.

She is rich with a family that seems poor though she takes well care of them. Her family members show little interest in working or improving their own lot. She enables them yet berates them at the same time. Often her lectures are pure projections of her own bad behaviour.

She makes poor choices in her love life - choosing all the wrong men and ignoring the good ones. She has the resources to go to a sperm bank or adopt yet she steals sperm from a lover. She continues a relationship with a married man despite having other options. (She is played by Gabrielle Union so you know she too beautiful to not have lots of options.)

Union plays this role nicely. The rest of the cast is good as well. I am happy to see the lovely Raven Goodwin again.

Bob's Burgers

Insane in all the good ways. The kids are nuts: Louise is a deviant genius bordering on psychopathy, Tina was originally written as a male character who was pretty much switched in body shape and name only leaving her free from the usual stereotypes, and Gene is a loveable idiot with a lot of quirky one-liners.

Bob's Burgers is a great comedy that requires little thinking to enjoy. Though they often do parodies which makes it fun as well. Love the Goonies, I mean Belchies, episode.

I think it's funny so many people let the title get in the way of enjoying this show. Then again I almost didn't watch it because it starred Anthony Anderson. (Still not a fan of Anderson.)

I gave it a try because it has Laurence Fishburne. I'm glad I did. This show is funny and the family is likeable. It discuses race in a way that is smart but not too heavy handed.

Tracee Ellis Ross is a nice counter balance to Anderson. Keeping him from getting too annoying and whiny - his usual style. There seemed to be too many kids at first but as they have developed their characters more they grew on me. Especially that Diane, played by Marsai Martin.

American Horror Story

Interesting but uneven anthology series.

The first season, Murder House, started off well. It seemed like someone had combined NIN music videos with classic horror movies and a fabulous cast. It disturbingly but effectively mixes some sexy moments with terrifying ones. Connie Britton and Taissa Farmiga are excellent though Britton does not appear again after this season. The living legend that is Jessica Lange is here from the begging and always brings her A game. Frances Conroy and Jan Brewer are also excellent cast members who will continue through the seasons.

I found the 2nd season (Asylum) uninteresting and didn't finish it - so I won't comment on it. Other than to say, Adam Levine? Ew.

The third season, Coven, brings a mixture of horror and history. I enjoyed the use of historical, though fictionalized, figures as characters. The racially motivated rivalry between the witches and voodoo priestesses made for an interesting thread. We also see the addition of Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett to the AHS regulars.

The 4th season, Freak Show, is good but not quite on the same level as the odd numbered seasons. Some nice casting additions including the use of people who might have been in a freak show had they been born in a different era.

WOW. This show really changed my view of "Web Series". This was well written and well acted. And best of all, it brings a unique voice that was being ignored by the major media outlets.

Issa Rae is everything that is right about Web TV Series.

New host, Trevor Noah, deserves a new review. This show got a much needed facelift. CC finally realized there are people of colour and women who watch TV and are actually adding shows and hosts to try to win us over. Trevor was a great choice. He is smart and funny and brings a different perspective to a show that until recently liked to pretend it was global.

OLD REVIEW (for the Jon Stewart years.) It's often funny though clearly targeted towards stoned adolescent white males. The studio audience is frequently annoying and easily pleased by lame references to penises and pot with no real humour necessary.

The correspondents are great. They are the main reason to watch the show. They come and go but a lot of great talent has gone through there often to go on to better shows of their own.

The political interviews are frequently well done. Too bad so many of the interviews are boring celeb sound bites just to sell a bad film. And Stewart's friends. Those interviews are weak. I usually just skip the celeb interviews and go right the Moment of Zen.

This was probably the worst ride in Shondaland.
