How do I love thee, Television, let me count the ways. I simply love television and all the possibilities the medium contains. Be it mini series, long arcs in drama series or clutching my stomach from laughing at the antics in a sitcom. I'm especially down for a some dramatic comedy or comedic drama. I'm amazed by web series and floored over consistent character development. I have a deep love for British series, flawed characters and one hit wonders among other things.
The best modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that exists in the whole world. The modernised version of our beloved classic characters are spot on considering the circumstances. They leap across the screen - or YouTube video window - and gradually all become complex characters that you can't simply put in a box like you could with the original characters. The four leading ladies are phenomenal and their chemistry is spot on. Charlotte and Lydia gets to have storylines that resonate with many people.
The transmedia elements that all of us that watched it during the postings of videos made all of these characters people we could see and interact with on our social media platforms and have created a lasting connection to that year when these characters existed in our lives.
I truly cannot recommend this enough and have rewatched it multiple times since it ended in 2013.
This show is amazing! I loved everything about it; the 80's fashion, hating Marc Maron, the hair, the wrestling, the everything! Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin have amazing chemistry and I love how grey and sad Alison's Ruth is. Everyone in this ensemble gets to shine and be real people not just the stereotypes they play. It is funny and touching and just great. I didn't expect much, but damn am I glad I watched.
Every year is different, but all years are the same. It is bonkers in every conceivable way of the word. One big party where everyone are friends until your neighboring country doesn't vote for your song. Every county have their commentators that just are Eurovision. This is the one evening every year where I feel like I'm closest to the rest of Europe - and now Australia? - and it is just a wonderfully insane fun night over cheering and rolling your eyes.
For a movie called The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks I'd have loved to see more of Henrietta Lacks, and perhaps more about her cells. However, the acting is amazing and besides the lack of Henrietta I really liked it. Oprah is killing it. And I will definitely be seeking out the book it is based on.
Darkly funny and hilarious while at the same time genuine and filled with heart. These characters face and epic fuck up of mostly their own making and handle it so badly, that you can't help but laugh and cry with them. Six episodes that I burned right through, so I could see if they managed to save if not the day, then their dignities.
I didn't watch this show until 2016/2017 and had only hear about, but I am amazed at how well it holds up. It really does capture the spirit of being a teenager in the 90's. It has a broad and talented cast that allows for showcasing different lives and experiences, both as a teenager and an adult. It captures the spectacular and mundane moments of life and I love it.
This is a super interesting concept and while I sometimes went "wait, what?", I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. It is also beautifully shot and I really enjoyed the multigenerational aspects of this invasion. It made it that more interesting.
I wanted to like this show so much. I enjoyed the whole concept more than the actual show, because after a couple of episodes it just wears thin and the laughs just stop coming. I doesn't help that Johnny Pemberton started getting on my nerves, but that might just be my issue.
Interesting angle to a basic procedural. The case are interesting and the history behind makes for compelling television. It made me think way more than a regular old procedural. It really delivered on the dark storylines and was filled with tension.
This show is really hard to describe, but if you like it you really like it. The cast is versatile and every character in this universe is complex and compelling. It is at times scary, but always intelligent and fun. It is charming and the story is complex, yet makes total sense for these characters. I just really love it and encourage everyone to give it a chance, because it is fantastic!
