The story line isn't entirely new... we've seen it before - awkward geniuses solve crimes with the help of someone "normal" to translate, but there's something about the way that they pull it off - the acting or the writing maybe - that makes it feel new. I love the characters. Perhaps in the first episode they feel a bit one-dimensional, but it takes time to build a character. I think this series has huge potential.
Fantastic. Just fantastic. The characters are so absorbing and quirky and REAL in a way that most serial shows don't ever accomplish, much less sustain for over four seasons. EDIT: Alright, it WAS amazing and fantastic and I loved it... and it should probably have ended. It's starting to get real repetitive and I'm rather sick of the "oh no, someone knows Mike's secret, let's do something illegal to cover it all up again." Gotta know when it's time to call it quits.
This was rough. The only reason I watched the whole thing is that I'm a completionist and I don't want to watch The Defenders without watching all the other Netflix Marvel shows. But honestly the writing is kind of terrible, the character development is alternately non-existent for some characters and is super erratic for others, the plot is a mess, and the white boy spouting a mish-mash of quasi-Buddhist philosophies is horrible. They really couldn't have updated this to include less racism? Let's be honest, the people who care about keeping this cannon are the minority of viewers. Claire was the only thing that kept me going in this show. Thank goodness she was in so many episodes.
Gotta love it, but it started going downhill mid-series 6 in my opinion. The writing and plot feel lazy and the characters are far less intriguing than they once were. But still one of my favorite shows, and with Capaldi as the newest incarnation of the Doctor, I think there's a lot of potential for series 8 to reinvigorate the show. That said, I think everyone should try this show! How can you go wrong when the writers can literally tell any and every type of story?! Start at the beginning and prepare to be sucked in!
So awesome! I love basically every actor/actress in this show. I want more!!
I'm a browncoat through and through, so what can I give this but a 5 star rating? I love the characters, love the drama and the snarky/sarcastic/witty sense of humor. Somehow the cast and crew seem to take it incredibly seriously while at the same time having a hell of a good time with it all. But of course... as everyone knows and agrees on by now... it ended too soon.
After hearing friend after friend tell me how fabulous this show is, I finally gave in and tried it. I've only seen the first season so far, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by it. The acting is decent, the characters are interesting (though I don't feel very connected to them and even cheer for some of their deaths), the makeup is fantastic, but the plot doesn't feel particularly original. It tends to follow the rules of the genre rather than doing anything innovative with them. Still... can be fun.
I really enjoy this show, but I do feel like it's missing a little something to give it an oomph. I LOVE hearing the Gaelic... it's fascinating and beautiful sounding. The plot, however, leaves something to be desired. It's very slow moving. I'd say the target audience is middle aged women, though there are certainly aspects that will appeal to people outside that demo.
Hilarious and decidedly unexpected. Some aspects get a little repetitive at time and sometimes predictable, but so much fun!
I love a lot of the people in this, love the plot, love the singing, but the pacing of the plot is frankly bizarre. It's like it's speeding through some things and making it seem like lots of time is passing, but then slows down again and returns to character development/relationships that seem like what they would have been without that time jump. I don't know. Other than the weird pacing, it's also got some weirdly shaky camera work and odd framing choices. I feel like the characters have a lot of potential and there are some fantastic talents involved, but I don't know if the show is going to survive.
