How do I love thee, Television, let me count the ways. I simply love television and all the possibilities the medium contains. Be it mini series, long arcs in drama series or clutching my stomach from laughing at the antics in a sitcom. I'm especially down for a some dramatic comedy or comedic drama. I'm amazed by web series and floored over consistent character development. I have a deep love for British series, flawed characters and one hit wonders among other things.
This documentary series blew my mind. The access that they had is incredible and the result is so well rounded. It shows the viewer all the perspectives, inmates, families of victims and inmates - even jury members who had to make the decision to give the death sentence. The series shows all of these perspectives in the same way, meaning the viewers get to decides what they mean. I am against the death penalty, but I honestly think this is everyone no matter their opinion in regards to the death penalty. This is not enjoyable, but it is well made and important and I recommend it to everyone.
This series looks at three different hate crimes and unravels the stories beautifully. Several sides of the same case is shown and as a viewer you get to judge the people involved without the documentary's judgement. It presents the police findings as they come to light during the case, which means plenty of twists and turns. The people convicted and their families get to speak their truth and we as viewers can draw our own conclusions based on the evidence and behaviour of people.
This is a whole new angle on true crime. The focus is on a series of crimes committed in Dryden, New York, and that is the thing that links these crimes. It is as much as true crime show as it is a look at how communities deal with crime. It is build up chronologically, which helps give the sense of urgency and despair that the community must have felt. I found it a quite refreshing new way to look at true crime.
I really like this concept and exploring how people will react to an apocalypse and while that is not exactly the focus of this show, I still really like it. I really like the chemistry between the two leads. They each have bagage to deal with, which makes them really interesting characters. I would have like a little more focus on the pre-apocalypse aspect, but I still greatly enjoyed this as a character study of sorts. Also, Agyness Deyn is phenomenal.
I simply adore this show. It us such a refreshing take on the romantic comedy, while also being a story about friendship. It is silly at times, but it also packs an emotional punch that will make you shred tears. The friendship between Evie, Dylan and Luke - and later one when Angus get more integrated - is lovely. The non-linear storytelling might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it really works with each flashback adding more layers to the characters and their relationships.
As a Dane I had very few preconceived notions about the Clutter Family and In Cold Blood. I knew only what pop culture has told me, mainly that Trueman Capote wrote a book about this horrible crime. This documentary looks at the murders, the murderers and the aftermath in a very well thought out way. It is well researched and beautifully shot. For much of the time the focus is on the family and the community and not just the sensationalism and the murders. This grounds the story in the utter tragedy of this crime and not who did it, which I for one appreciate.
Lore the tv show manages to translate the experience of Lore the podcast perfectly. It is perfectly creepy and disturbing, yet still informative. I love the podcast and now I love this show as well. Even if I'm going to have nightmares from the last episode, it was well worth it.
This is such a touching movie about the very difficult thing of a missing child,. The focus on the emotional aftermath of how living with the knowledge of ones child being gone without an explanation was good, as it allowed Cumberbatch and Macdonald to bring their a-game. This is so well acted and let things be and lets viewers come to their own conclusions, which was wonderful.
Also seeing Benedict Cumberbatch play a regular person was wonderful.
Intense and honest look at what an eating disorder does to a person. The format of a vlog works in the favour of the show as it makes hearing Imo's thoughts feel more natural than a voice over would have. It also makes the presence of Anna -I really like that the eating disorder is personified - more intense. I love that the focus is on the psychological effect on Imo and her family and friends and not the eating disorder itself. Writer Eva O'Connor knows how to portray this situation without glamourising eating disorders. I highly recommend this everyone.
This show is endless fun and the chemistry between all the actors really heightens the enjoyment. From the first moment The Good Place feels like such a complete world filled with wonderfully crazy characters and it just continues to evolve and come together. The storylines are coherent and everything comes together beautifully in the end. The ride is sweet and the destination is fantastic. I honestly how imaginative this show is.
