I think the most important thing to say in a review for those that don't know the book is this: do NOT give up, do NOT get frustrated because you don't understand. You will get it. It has nothing to do with not having read the book or the producers and writers being bad at their job. It's because this is how it is supposed to be. The idea is for you to enjoy it as it is. Enjoy the individual short stories and follow Shadow (who is as clueless as the viewer/reader). And as you watch you WILL get the information and get to know what is going on.
Edit after watching season 1:
I LOVE it. I canĀ“t wait for season 2!
For new watchers, I recommend waiting until chapters 4 and 5 before considering giving up. 4 gives you the story of Laura and Shadow. And 5 makes clearer what is going on with Wednesday, Media, Technical Boy.... If after that you are still not hooked... well... I would still watch to the end. XDDDDDDD But it's probably the earliest you can decide "I know better what it is about, and it's not my thing".
I wasn't sure about what would come out of this. Anne is dear to me and the fact that it's an adaptation and not 100% following the books was scary. But truth is I've enjoyed every second of it. I had binged all 7 episodes before I realised it. And while some things are new and not from the books I think they've done a good job of keeping this Anne true to the spirit of the Anne we know from the books.
Delightful. I LOVED it. Sad it was gone before I knew it existed. But well worth watching anyway.
Real Shame. It was a great pilot.
I enjoyed everything about it.
It's more entertaining than the last Netflix Marvel series. It drags its feet less. I still find it somehow lacking but it was easy to watch and rarely got that feeling of being bored or reluctant to watch more. That said, I can't say that I care about it, I'm indifferent to its fate. If there is more I might or might not watch... because I don't love it but don't hate it either.
Nothing in it for me.
Keep away, specially if you do like the book or the old movie. This is unrelated to it.
I watched the first 2 episodes and couldn't be more uninterested. It's well done so I won't give it 1/2 a star but I really see no point in it.
This is an amazing show. Not a single one of them won't hit your brain and make you think. (also your heart might hurt a bit on ocasions.
Do not watch them one after the other.... *Laughs* Or do... if you can't help it.
But go back to them some time later and watch them separatedly.
It's a bit like good food, you can binge on it. But if you do on the really good food it's a shame because it sort of blends and becomes cheap and undistinguishable. You need to take your time with each bite and dish to reaklly appreciate good food.
This TV series is the same, each chapter needs to be taken in separatedly.
I admit I did binge on the first season ;), since the 3 chapters were already out. Second season I saw as it was aired and I realised that's how it was meant to be watched, each one separatedly. I've sence then watched season 1 again (max 1 a day) and it's really better that way. Also worth re-watching at a later day, as you'll see/appreciate new stuff the 2nd and 3rd times.
You will like some more than others, you will probably "understand" some more than others, and some might feel unrelated to you or anything you know (still good but nothing you can really relate to), while others might hit so close you'll just have to sit in silence for a while... It all depends on your background, your interests... To me, because of when it was aired there is one favorite. Not the best probably, but it's my favourite because I could relate to it and I can easilly imagine it happening (figuratively...) ... (I hope...).
I've seen some reviews of people really really not understanding it at all and dismissing it as Sci-Fi or "weird".... which makes me sad. ... if you watch it and nothing in your brain or guts or heart moves... then just let it be, for whatever reason you are missing the point and you'll probably won't enjoy any of it.
Was OK... nothing too memorable. Its target audience is younger teenagers and it shows. Entertaining if you don't mind that.
First it looks a bit lame but then you start caring about them. And it's refreshing now that The Walking Dead is getting sort of monotonous.
This series are full of quirky jokes and references. Don't miss the previews at the end of each chapter for gems like the promo crossover between sharknado and zombies. :D
It wasn't the best ever, and you couldn't help but recognize it sort of copied from "Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe". Not AS brilliant, but anyway the subjects are completely different and would be unfair to compare them. It grew on you and before you realised it you were making references and talking about it with your workmates the next day... and waiting for the next one to come.
I have to assume Wil's judgement about why it was cancelled is probably true because I doubt it was too expensive to keep without huge audiences, It looks like it was inexpensive enough to produce to keep it around.
Anyway... too bad it didn't survive.
