It’s 1984, and life isn’t easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw. Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own. Carrie’s friends – sweet, geeky Mouse, sarcastic and self-assured Maggie and sensitive Walt – make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles. And even though the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian brings some excitement to Carrie’s world, she is struggling to move on from her grief. So when Tom offers Carrie the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, she leaps at the chance. Carrie’s eyes are opened wide at the glamour and grit of New York City – and when she meets Larissa, the style editor for Interview magazine, she’s inspired by the club culture and unique individuals that make up Larissa’s world. Carrie’s friends and family may have a big place in her heart, but she’s fallen in love for the first time with the most important man in her life – Manhattan.

Really disappointed that this charming Sex and the City prequel couldn't find an audience. It was a sweet, well-written, 80's coming of age tale with a talented young cast. Definitely worth a watch!

I love this show, it is simple which adds to its charm. It is very well written, you get attached to the characters and their stories very easily, it's a shame the show got cancelled.

Lasting only two 13 episode seasons, The Carrie Diaries tried to bring a second set of Millennials a taste of the world they've been copying for the past five years...the 80s. Great casting came in the form of AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw, fresh from the loss of her mother and starting her junior year in high school. The show was able to depict a fairly decent reality check to the fashion of the day, music and the need to have an abundance of EVERYTHING. Especially for those in NYC at the time, it wasn't all dark and dramatic but especially a watered-down, PG-13 version of the original show. Granted, this was for a 16-year-old audience and as such, gave plenty of eye-candy in the male department (and did I mention the fashion?). There were times where it focused a little too much on the adults/parents and didn't have enough oomph to keep the show on track, accept for Carrie's mentor Larissa, who was an absolute dream of a character and I could watch her all day. But overall it was a fun journey to see how Carrie got her start in journalism, first loves, her first time, first NYC parties and of course wearing gorgeous clothing.
