CRASHING - SEASON ONE
Such a shame it only had one series, but so good that we got that at all. I have such fondness for this show, and I really do urge you to give it a go. Crashing is a more immediately goofy show as it follows a group of twentysomethings living in a decommissioned hospital, but it showcases a heartfelt vulnerability as the characters fitfully learn to grow into themselves.
ANATOMY OF A SCANDAL - SEASON ONE
Anatomy of a Scandal overcomes its flaws well enough to lay the groundwork for self-contained thrillers. The courtroom scenes are quite captivating as the audience get to be the jury hearing the voices and opinions and interpreting them accordingly.
STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS
It's a fine mix of nostalgia for the franchise, brilliant humour and plotlines that are pure Star Trek. If you haven't had the chance yet then you are in for a treat.
ALICE IN BORDERLAND - SEASON ONE
The production is slick, the action is well-choreographed and exciting, the games are clever, and the characters are believable as best friends thrust into an unpredictable and dangerous situation.
CATFISH, UK - SEASON ONE
I used to be an optimist whilst watching Catfish (US Version) but after watching the first episode of Catfish, UK; I am realising the story is much bleaker. The charm of Julie and Oobah kept me from hurling myself into the abyss of the whisky bottle by the end. The credits inform us that the Catfishee's are offered counselling. I am wondering if this counselling is offered to the viewers because something tells me Catfish UK won't get as many happy endings... but, really, isn't that the reason we watch Catfish anyway?
SWEET TOOTH - SEASON ONE
The performances are strong throughout, Anozie is amazing! However, it's the consistently inventive writing and robust filmmaking that make the project stand out.
BEHIND HER EYES - SEASON ONE
It is probably intended to make you want to go back and watch the whole series again with fresh eyes (remember the title?). The only problem is, The buildup works well, but many will question the unexpected ending.
OUTER BANKS - SEASON ONE
If everything about this show was just a little bit more engaging, or funnier, or more absurd, it would be actually fun to watch, but most of it is like "Bloodline" with training wheels, "Scooby Doo" with swearing. That said, it is actually very binge-able, mostly due to the constantly evolving plot... and COVID. Mostly COVID.
SAFE - SEASON ONE
Finding out why they are so guarded, and where all the bodies (figuratively and literally) are buried, is what makes this series a great Sunday-night binger.
LOCKE AND KEY - SEASON ONE
An appealing teen adventure series about magic and mysterious family secrets that's engaging and easy enough to breeze through in a couple sittings. This combination of fantasy and horror provides opportunities not just for scares and imagination, but for astute reflections of society: that self-imposed burdens can leave everyone bowed.
