I've loved TV since I was kid and these days I love it more than ever, and while I'm primarily into cartoons, a lot of live-action TV has caught my eye in recent years.
Agent Carter so far is pretty good. It was off to a rocky start in the early episodes, however, once we got around half way in, things got a little more interesting and some of the early set up really started to pay off with the revelations in the later episodes. The short number of episodes is good, the performance from Hayley Atwell and the rest of the cast is great and the action is very nicely done.
One Piece is a really great anime full of action, adventure and drama, and while it has all of the typical elements of a shonen anime, what it does well is engage with it's unique world and mythology, crazy and memorable characters, really good presentation and awesome stories. It is truly brilliant and very enjoyable thanks to the fact that even though it is very similar to anime in the same genre, it has this larger than life feel, unique presence style and good amounts of humour, but the show goes deeper than that and give you hugely deep backstories with drama and levels of a emotion that will leave you in tears for good and sad reasons.
I really do recommend it to anyone who wants to a different yet rewarding experience when it comes to anime. Even though the series is over 500 episodes long you should give it a chance, I have been watching for almost 4 years come this summer and I've never regretted it, and if you start I doubt that you will regret it either :D
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a good time, it takes a while to get going, but once it does it doesn't stop. Even though I didn't like some of the earlier episodes, they were necessary as they are used for character building and setting up plot elements that come to pass later on. Even though there are problems with pacing, lackluster episodes and a lack of compelling stories, this is countered by a great cast, good use of comic book characters and good pay-off to earlier plot points. Also rewatching the show again allows you to see so many things you wouldn't have seen the first time round. Plus this miniature universe AoS has created for TV creates the potential for more comic book source material to be mined and possibly crossover material into the film universe as well.
I would defintely recommend the show, it is a bit slow at first, but the pros outway the cons so much.
Arrow is a very good show that approaches its superhero roots in a very different way, it approaches things in a very realistic manner, but also doesn't shy away from elements that make a good superhero story worth telling. While I feel the realism can be a bit off-puting and some episodes are a bit dull, overall there is a great number of stories to be told, with established characters getting to grow and develop while newcomers come in and shake things up in an interesting way. And with awesome action sequences, lovely references to the comic book source material and foreshadowing for bigger things to come, Arrow is just great.
Constantine is a great piece of TV and well worth your time. The strange and disturbing stories, coupled with the dark, eerie and horror-like atmosphere makes for some really cool and intriguing episodes. While it does take a few episodes for the show to find its own identity and style, but once it does things really do become more developed and layered. Matt Ryan has a compelling presence as the main character and since the show is just so mature and unlike other comic book shows I've seen before, it keeps me wanting to see more.
To put it simply Fringe is one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. The show has such great mythology and law and as it progresses the stories and events just get more interesting, mysterious and complex. It also helps that the cast are brilliant with really awesome performances from Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble as well as the other members of the main cast too. But what also helps, for allthe strange sci-fi events that are larger than life, there is a very human element to the show where you invest so much of my time in this world, story and characters. If you haven't checked this show out yet I implore you to have a look, Fringe is without a doubt some of the most entertaining TV I have watched in recent years.
Overall Marvel's The DefendersĀ is a decent show that has some great moments but didn't live up to its potential. I really did enjoy the character crossover not only from the main heroes but also the secondary cast, and when the action, dialogue and soundtrack were on-point it was a fun show to watch. However, this team up series didn't give me the compelling story that I wanted, there were some bad decisions made with the villains and Iron Fist, the action scenes weren't consistently good and there was a lack of satisfying payoff once the show was over. The Defenders wasn't terrible and was easily the best material from the Netflix MCU since the first half of Luke Cage, but as it stands, Marvel and Netflix are really gonna have to step up their game if they want to keep the fans coming back for more.
Marvel's Daredevil, simply put is awesome. I had so much hope for this show and luckily it delivered the goods. This show is dark, violent, action-packed, dramatic and just a lot of fun to watch especially if you are binge watching it. It pays homage to the comic books source material and also makes subtle references to the films of the MCU, but it is primarily self-contained and that's not a bad thing at all. The's main strengths is the key performances from Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, the wonderfully choreographed action sequences and the well-told stories.
While it is not perfect and there are a few weak episodes and characters, when it comes to TV-based superhero adaptations, it doesn't get better than this and I cannot recommend it enough. Avoid spoilers if you can as this show is best enjoyed fresh.
Ultimate Spider-Man is a bit a mixed bag, but it has more bad than good. While the art and animation is amazing and the fact that Spidey gets into interact with so many other famous superheroes is cool, it doesn't make up for the bad jokes, poor character development, unengaging characters and lack of compelling stories. The show isn't a complete waste of time, but it is a bumpy ride. Approach with caution.
Hotel Babylon is still great. The writing is very strong resulting is some great dialogue from character narrations to people in the show specifically and whether the stories involve rude footballers, politicians, angry bell boys, cults or hotel take-overs, there's always something new to see and it's smartly handled with good amount of realism. While some of stories aren't always consistent the show still has so much heart and emotion that it's hard to not get addicted. While the subsequent seasons don't hold a candle to what has come before, the first two seasons are some of the best TV I've come across.
