I stumbled across this show in the breakroom at work, and from the first five minutes I saw, I was hooked. This show is medical without being cold, dramatic without ever going over the top, and touching without getting too cheesy. The midwives of nonnatus house fall in love with their patients, and so will you.
Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Will Forte's "Last Man On Earth" is a glimpse into the life of a man who finds himself alone at the end of humanity as we know it. This show is hilarious, but also makes us wonder what would WE do under the circumstances? Would we raid the Smithsonian? Use a swimming pool as a toilet? Would we ever get so pathetic as to call a volleyball our best friend? In conclusion: this show rocks.
Maria Bamford is probably the most absurd, off-the-wall comedian I have ever seen. With that in mind, this show is incredibly well put-together. It is often easy to get lost in a program that is so zany and unpredictable, but Bamford's sharp focus on her character had me hooked. The format is quirky and avant-garde, and the writing is great. Bonus points for guest comedians.
Steven Universe is broadcast on Cartoon Network, but that doesn't mean it's just for kids. Sure, it's filled with goofy jokes and cheesy gags (see: cat fingers), but like many other so-called "kids' cartoons", there is a depth to the plot. Steven's mom, a former member of the crystal gems, gave up her physical form so that Steven could exist. That's some pretty serious stuff. Also, the gems fight bad guys, but those bad guys weren't always bad. Steven Universe may be aimed at kids, but it's not so over-the-top that it can *only* be enjoyed by kids. Excellent plots and great characters, not to mention an awesome score. Overall, I give it five stars.
Rarely do I ever fall victim to the draw of reality TV, but when I started watching Little Women:LA, I fell hard. While the show took a few episodes to get its pacing right (and boy, its bumpers didn't leave much left for those episodes), the material was just right. This show is about a group of friends who all have some form of dwarfism. The show follows them through the daily stresses of their careers, relationships, and yes, friend drama. These women are super-relatable and that is what I love about this show.
