At this stage I'm not sure what you expect from a review anymore.

Van Helsing

Whilst it's not what some might expect, I'm not sure that Van Helsing would have had a second season if it had not been on Netflix. But the thing is I think it's the second season that it picks up.

Van Helsing is a modern day adaptation based on a comic series in which a vampire uprising has happened called "The Uprising" which happened after Yellowstone park went up. The biggest power she has is that she can turn vampires back to human if she bites them, she's sort of the inverse. What's interstnig
is that some of the cast in series one who were part of the good guys, could now be part of the bad guys in season 2 and the bad guys in season 1 can be decent guys in season 2 so these new twists did keep me engrossed.

The take inspiration from The Walking Dead. I think you can already see this from the poster. It's quite gory and isn't afraid to show you someone literally having their throat ripped out, but don't worry this aspect isn't over done so it's not constant gore. It's similar in the way the show's filmed, after a while and more in season 2 the show at times will focus on other members of the group, what there doing now as well as show some back story's.

Some characters will grow on you, some won't. They will throw you curveballs, some you'll see coming a mile off and some you won't.

Christopher Heyerdahl is amazing and deserves an award for his performance. One of the reasons that kept me watching was watching Heyerdahl, so much so that it even made me look up his bio because someone that talented should be a house hold name and not just a familiar face.

Just remember you're watching a show about a semi apocalyptic world overrun by vampires before you start to judge the storyline.

The adaptations of Sherlock have always interested me such as Elementary, however the British feel of Sherlock along with the ideal casting makes it an amazing watch. The seasons are short but the episodes are entertaining especially as Benedict Cumberbatch developers his portrayal of a modern day Sherlock Holmes. The rest of the cast also do a splendid job including Martin Freeman's role as Dr Watson. There's also an memorable encounter with Andrew Scott and many other actors making appearances.

If crime mixed with a bit of humour is your thing then you won't regret Sherlock, you will find Cumberbatch at his finest to date.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of it from the first couple of episodes and looking back on the first season I'm not 100% sure what I make from it nor what to expect. The show in my opinion is tailored towards sci fi fans who are into and searching for a more complex fictional story.

The casting appears to be otherwise spot on as with a theme such as this, even average casting could turn it into a train wreck so this isn't something I'm sure will go as far as four or five seasons. We're not talking about the usual breed of supernatural beings we see on TV but this time we are focused around actual God's themselves and as we learn, some are old and some are new and both sets of God's do not appear to want to co exist which is what is going to be leading us into season 2.

The show has a complex way of explain the main story without having some pre knowledge going into it whilst at the same time trying to focus on developing characters. Ian McShane is a great cast for the role of Mr Wednesday, he's the kind of guy that the writers could have a lot of fun with. Ricky Whittle comes across as stiff, but he settles his role well enough but I have issues wondering whether his character meant to be the protagonist or whether Mr Wednesday is, whilst at the same time favouring Pablo Schreiber's role as a 6 foot leprechaun.

If you have Amazon prime then it's worth a gamble, you'll either be curious like I was or you won't get past episode 2.

Star Trek: Discovery

I've seen every single Star Trek episode and every single movie, I wouldn't class myself as a trekkie but I would consider myself a huge Star Trek fan and to sum it up quick when it comes to Discovery I kinda like it. The main reason is that I feel the actors and actresses playing in the leading role are trying hard, because such roles in a celebrated franchise can make or break careers. Jason Isaacs casting is also a great one as his personality matched the immediate vibe I received from him when he was introduced.

What I feel that a lot of people don't like is the conflict with universes, being that it's not in the same universe as the modern day movies. And from that point people can snowball over things and basically choose not to like the actors, the storyline and so on. Some of the ideas are different in Discovery as to how things traditionally worked. The story starts around a conflict with the Klingons, the first contact after 100 years. The Klingons themselves are slightly different in appearance, and they seem to have a slight more diverse of personalities. Sure the majority are the traditional warrior, but some of the Klingons appear more timid and susceptible to emotions.

I feel that five or so characters develop themselves quickly which is also what got me wanting to see the next episode, along with the storyline. There's no messing around and you're thrown into the thick of it quite quickly. On that note I've always felt that traditionally Star Trek series have been slow going at the beginning. Whether they will run short of ideas or just implement poor ones in the future remains to be seen, but the fact that it's on Netflix means we should expect to see at least 5 seasons in my hones opinion.

If you're a star trek fan then you have a duty to watch this! :)

Lucifer

There is a comic book version however I'm told the TV Show does differ in a lot of ways, and that I'm ok with because Tom Ellis really does bring the charm with the character and that's what drew me in because honestly he's nailed it in what is a wacky storyline even for sci fi, paranormal fiction. The Devil himself taking a permanent vacation to be on Earth and assist a detective in solving crimes, I mean it does sound silly even on paper which meant a lot of thought was needed in order to make this the success it has been.

One of the major reasons behind it's success is it's availability on Amazon Prime, and it's a shame it hasn't appeared on Netflix. A lot of shows are doing well in which several years ago may have been cancelled. With Lucifer there is the potential to get a good 5+ seasons depending on the direction they take it.

What makes the show stand out for me is Tom Ellis's charm as Lucifer, the fact that he's British it what is a very Americanised show also emphasizes how he stands out from the rest of the cast, who throughout the series also develop themselves quite well. Shortly in the second season you'll find that several characters have established themselves well.

If Sci Fi and Paranormal shows are your thing, if you're into things like Supernatural then Lucifer is definitely worth a try especially if you have Amazon Prime.

The Blacklist

Blacklist is one of those shows that you 'take a chance' on and this is one show you will be glad you did. What makes The Blacklist so popular I believe is James Spader, we have the right person for the right role at the right time and not many shows can nail it as good as what Spader as with his portrayal of Raymend Redington who just cannot help but love everything about him from the way his dresses to his mannerism. Is he the good guy? Is he the bad guy with a secret agenda? Is he honest with his intentions? There is no direct answer to each of these questions and it was only going to take a unique and talented actor such as James Spader to make this sure a success.

The show is about Raymend Reddington who hands himself into the authorities after spending years on the run building criminal network and contacts all over the world, creating a little "blacklist" along the way and now uses that blacklist to keep the authorities from slamming him being bars and throwing away the key. This Blacklist run by Reddington assists into the capturing of a number of extremely dangerous futitives and criminals, naturally there incarceration each one is a personal benefit to Reddington.

If cop drama is your thing then this is worth having a look.

The Walking Dead

Zombies (sorry for using that word to the hardcore walking dead fans) are in, they've been in for a number of times and they aren't going away. I hear "Not another Zombie thing, they are so out now" and that's not true because people keep watching them, especially the cheap and tacky ones. The only thing in recent years that we have strayed from is the stereotypical zombie that has a fondness of brains, zombies these days generally have no preference.

The Walking Dead has it all, I guess it was one of the shows that started off the "shock factor" by killing off what are up until that point major charactors. The show creaters got into the habit of just completly blindsiding you which was genius because it made you want to watch the next episode. Now granted, at times like all shows for a few episodes here and there they can drag on. You can't expect any TV Show to drop an epic episode every single time, no matter which show you look at past or present from time to time each one has had a rubbish episode, charactors you aren't fond of and storylines you didn't like and Walking Dead is no exception to that at times. Sometimes even though a charactor might be hevaily involved at present they just can't seem to get over to the viewers as much and with The Walking Dead again this is no exception as you will have to get used to quite quickly dealing with comings and goings on a regular basis.

So regardless for a quick intro to it if you've been living under a rock on marks with your eyes shut and hands over your ears, it begins after the world has recently been devistated by a virus that has spread which appears to bring the dead back to a form on unintelligent life some team after they originally expired and the result is that they are like zombies and will wonder the earth until they are killed by having there brain destroyed, not just by decapitation and you basically follow a group of people as they battle to survive through the many obsticles that stand in their way. That is the basic short version. Also not for the sqeashmish, they do push the mordern day boundaries with blood and gore.
