Andy Samberg is my spirt animal.
This one has just enough personality to keep me smiling, even in the most eyeroll inducing, expected plots. The kid is adorable and the crossover into Parenthood is a fun little plus.
Not to be missed.
Utterly charming and unimpeded by the raunchier expectations weighing down its sketch premise big brother, SNL, Maya and Marty brought back Jiminy Glick, Maya Rudolph's impressions, and old worlds variety show charm to my summer. For those things I can only say, thanks a bunch.
Where so many superhero programs seem to go horribly wrong, The Flash somehow gets it mostly right. I place the blame for that squarely on the affable Grant Gustin and mostly stellar supporting cast, with only a few exceptions.
It's everything I was hoping it would be. A worthy junior to its predecessor 30 Rock. No one but Ellie Kemper could have nailed this quirky exuberance in the face of the harshest of backstories. Instantly quotable, and I always smile at the clever hat tip to meme culture, making the auto-tuned witness interview into the theme song. Bravo. More like this please.
With such a great cast it could really be something... but it'd have to declare a major first. This show doesn't seem to have enough focus to know what it wanted to be (when it grew up, or even just next week) so I'm not surprised it didn't make it past the freshman season chopping block.
Well, I just binge-watched all of season one. I have to say the show is campy in all the delightful ways I hoped it'd be. Intentionally playing on its backstabbing, plot-twist addled inspiration, the telenovela, but updating with characters who are at times likable, or at the very least laughable in an endearing kind of way. I'm grateful for the break from this particular binge, but I'll be back to see what becomes of... well, every single thing, since that's basically what's still up in the air at this point.
