Going into this show everyone knows it could be nothing but a guilty pleasure. That being said I do not feel the writing is strong enough for the second season the show set up for.
This show reminded me of True Jackson VP only more realistic(not quite the correct word but the closes I can come up with at this time). I liked it and I would have enjoyed some of the situations they could have some up with. So, I am a little disappointed in that it got cancelled
This spin off was OK not as good as the original but that is typical. I understood the decision on using CGI to make wonderland look different from both real life and the magic forest but the graphics were just too glaring and hurt the show. The story itself was decent but I am glad it did not last more than one season as I do not think they would have been able to maintain/expand the story line without absorbing it into Once Upon a Time.
Most cop shows today always seem to have a twist in (the person you think the murderer is, ex. the drug dealer, turns out to be someone else, ex.the best friend, with hidden motives through out). In Backstrom, the team is open to all possibilities and Detective Backstrom goes with what seems the most likely outcome and is right. So it seems to parody other cop shows and this would have been perfectly fine. I probability would have kept watching but Detective Backstrom is a pig to a degree that I can't stand in a main non-supporting character.
I feel like this show is like watching a train weck. It is trying so hard that it's bad but I can't look away. The first episode hit cliche after cliche all with overacting. That being said the 2nd episode is not as over the top as the 1st.
