What is there to tell? You all know it, I even doubt anyone reads reviews for GOT. Its HBO, so its all the glory of big-budget fantasy with proper sets, costumes, CGI, all those things you normally see lacking in TV fantasy series/films.
Its pirates, what more do you want? It is a good show with good and bad guys/girls, but them being pirates it just means some people are less bad then others.
The storylines work and sure there are situations wich make you think; "really?" but again its pirates so a little weird was to be expected.
You know it is going to be the same each season but I just cant help myself. I like the gritty setting, the family drama, the veteran-deckhands, the weird customs and the bending or breaking of the greenhorns. All-in-all a great show, you know what to expect and they deliver every single episode.
It's great British TV. Quality like you can expect from the BBC. You just have to keep in mind that this show is not the quick, flashy action like some of the shows set in 'modern times'.
The pacing and the story-lines can seem slow to some and the conclusion to the cases are often complex. I for one like the fact that i still get surprised by most endings.
In short; It might not be your cup of tea, but if it is, it will taste great!
No it's not some pandemic nor is it extraterrestrial. It is vampires! More vampires you ask? Yes, more vampires but this time is is proper vampires.
Nobody sparkles in the Strain, to be precise, nothing sparkles in the Strain. It is dark and gloomy, just the way I like my vampires.
Sure there is a group of people that will survive, they are the main characters, others are not so lucky. New York at night turns into a walking buffet. But the main characters? They are awesome. If you have ever played a RPG video game, you will love them the way I do.
A refreshing take on the old story. Miller and Lui make a great couple and what makes it even better is the absence of romance between the two. Where other male/female leads usually end up in bed here the writers stay true to the original relationship between Holmes and Watson.
The adding of modern life set in New York creates a clash between Holmes' behavior and a world where being a little different is frowned upon.
What can I say, you know it, you know Jon, you know the crew. For me as a non-American it gave me an insight into the innerworkings of a worldpower. Over the years it helped creating a balance between the fear of its stupidity and the awesomeness of its achievements.
Edit: after Oliver left for his own show im very excited to see who will take over from Jon
One of the, if not the best, series about WWII. The stories are gripping and the characters are real from the get go. You feel like you are part of the group and their losses feel like your own. Watching the whole series in one sitting is possible but make sure to leave some spare time, for when it is done you will need time to return from Europe.
Really liked the idea behind SGU, fits in with the rest of the SG shows and had a good story with good characters. Shame they cut it short.
I loved him on TDS where he provided the "European" counterweight to the Americans and when he became interim-host for Jon he grabbed his chance and earned himself his own show. The freedom that HBO provides gives John Oliver the opportunity to really show us what he can do and boy is it good.
