Some scenes were quite cute, loved the music (very nostalgic), the story line was a little bit boring though. They could have done more with it. The character Emaline was downright annoying, Kate was awkward (but not in a good way), McQuaid was too exaggerated, the boys Tyler and Luke were played well (in my opinion), and I loved the characters Ken (Mr Messner) and Sherry (Luke's mom) and their relationship.
I saw the whole thing on the day it came out! Let me start by saying that the mother is so annoying. Don't get me wrong, I can imagine raising a kid with autism (see what I did there? ;)) is hard, but she controls everything too much.
She doesn't let Sam do anything without making it a problem when there isn't one (the shopping mall scene, anyone..? She made such a big deal about it before they went, and eventually Sam wasn't the one who was uncomfortable and therefore "causing problems", but SHE was). And the fact that he wants/has a girlfriend. She doesn't think it's a good idea, but it's kind of harmless? It's what normal 18-year olds do, date, and isn't that what she wants for him? To live a normal life? If she just keeps an extra eye on the situation, all should be fine. Overprotective much?
Ugh and the fact that she cheats on her husband with the first "exciting" guy who gives her a little bit of attention, I get where she's coming from, but thinking about it and acting on it are 2 different things. And she's a really bad wife for constantly seeking that attention and acting on her feelings.
And the fact that Casey gets ignored most of the time, because so much attention goes out to Sam is so real!
The show depicts a family situation with a kid who has "special needs", and how everyone is dealing with certain situation. And it is nowhere the fault of the special needs kid that some situations are bad, it's just the people around them and how they deal with it. They want to control things too much. Let life run its course, but do it responsibly.

This show is amazing! I literally watched it 6 times. Alexz Johnson is such a great actress and even better singer! Such a shame the show was cancelled; I'm still so curious about Jude and Tommy and Jude's career in England (it has been haunting me for 6 years :p). If you like shows containing drama, music and also a bit of humour, this is the show for you! Watch out, before you know it, you're hooked ;)
